That is also the case with the mac vpn client; the problem is that it doesn’t have a concept of “split dns”, it asks the first nameserver it picks for your.private.name and it explicitly says “sorry, no such thing”, so you’re done.

On a mac you can run your own dns, or do some other tricky stuff, but I think you’re probably screwed on iOS.

Can anyone get the built-in VPN client on any of these things to resolve DNS addresses when connected? It happily connects to both a Cisco VPN Concentrator 3000 series and an ASA 5510 using the same setup as Cisco’s VPN client and will pass traffic, but will not resolve DNS addresses for the private network. Any takers?

I have to admit that I was skeptical of the form factor at first — why not just use a laptop? However, after having used it for a few days I’m totally hooked. It is so much more convenient than a laptop for anything that doesn’t need a lot of input, and the keyboard is surprisingly good. (I’m typing this on it!)
