Love thy neighbor
In Lexington, our garbage carts are called Herbies. There is a city ordinance that states the Herbie should be placed on the curb no earlier than 7pm the night before garbage collection and should be retrieved no later than 7pm the day of garbage collection. Needless to say, a lot of people leave the things sitting out for days after garbage has been picked up.
As a result, our neighborhood has a vigilante “Herbie police” presence. During their morning jog on the day after garbage collection, this champion of curb appeal will take your abandoned Herbie and roll it right in front of the middle of your driveway, forcing you to move it. I will admit that I am amused by this act, probably because I make an effort to get my Herbie off the curb each week.
In response, a neighbor down the street now has this display out front:

The very bottom line reads “Smile – you’re being surveilled!”
Can’t we all just get along???
It is probably a certain neighbor that was pissed that she missed her opportunity to vote this past Tuesday.
